T-Mobile G1 owner testimonial: complaints!
Our fellow reader, Derek, shared his own impression about T-Mobile G1 he just bought. Sadly, some complaints are the result after trying the phone a little bit. Is this phone really that buggy? One strong evidence is the recent news, said that T-Mobile is going to give firmware updated (over the air), just one or two days after the release! Here goes Derek’s list that T-Mobile, Google, and HTC should listen:
- Bluetooth supports only headsets, which means that we can’t even transfer your phone contacts from other phone. Also we can’t use it as an Internet connection from a laptop computer
- It is incompatible with other phone contact format, so we couldn’t transfer contacts that way. On the bright side, We are able to create a CSV file of contacts and import them into Gmail account, which then synchronized with the phone instantly
- The display looks horrible in direct sun light
- The battery barely lasts a full day under light use. I’m hoping that higher capacity batteries will become available, as my w600i could last almost a week on it’s LiPo battery
- The speakerphone sounds raspy and distorted
Derek really hopes that since Android platform is based on Open Source initiatives, this problem may get fixed as soon as possible. Hopefully this first firmware update will help Derek (and other G1 users) solving some of the problems above (and other problems too). Probably this is part of what Mats Lindoff saying as “prototype” when his Sony Ericsson team is testing Android?
