ASUS P552w: coming to India
Asus is probably the top seller of netbook new genre, but in smartphone/PDA phone area, they are still trying their luck. Like this time, they are launching the new Asus P552w (sounds like a computer, not a phone) in India. The global launch was in September, but just getting in India recently. The phone is positioned to compete with HTC products, more successful Taiwan’s fellows in this area.
P552w is equipped with Glide, a competitor of HTC’s TouchFlo, the innovative touch-responsive user interface that ASUS has designed for navigation. Beside that, P552w will be equipped with:
- Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS
- 624MHz processor
- internal GPS with Google integration, and Gester technology that enables users to perform a variety of navigational actions – such as selecting, zooming, scrolling and flipping through shortcut menus much like HTC’s TouchFLO. Their versions are called Multi-Home, Anytime Launcher, EziPhoto, and EziMusic
- WLAN
- Bluetooth
- USB connectivity
- 2MP camera
- ASUS SMS Location Link, users can send a link embedded in an SMS of their location that when clicked on will show up on the receiver’s handset on Google Maps.
- Google Search Bar on the ‘Today’ screen that makes it easier to perform online queries
- Applications that enable easy access to web content like RSS newsfeeds, YouTube movies and photos on Flickr
The phone will be available at Rs 27,900 price tag (about US$ 550). Let’s see how good the P552w’s performance in India.
