Finally, iPhone in Japan with 1seg
You know the advance of Japan mobile technology. One of its feature is 1seg, the TV digital streaming. This one particular thing is very popular in Japan. So, when iPhone 3G was being launched there, there is slight doubt whether iPhone, which has no 1seg option, can compete with other sophisticated phone. After being surveyed as not that interesting, finally Softbank Mobile, as the exclusive seller of iPhone in Japan, launched an extended part of making 1seg enabled in iPhone.
The device is actually a 1-Seg a combination external battery and external TV tuner for iPhone 3G. With this device attached, we can watch TV digital using iPhone for up to 3 hours in usage time. The battery/tuner is smaller than the iPhone 3G (5 x 8.5 x 1.6 cm), and connects to the phone via the dock port. It includes an antenna for reception, and LEDs as indicator lights. The TV tuner works in conjunction with an app that will be provided through Apple’s App Store. Softbank said that it will recharge in two hours from a wall charger, or in four hours if charged through your computer’s USB port.
Will this device be used outside Japan, with modification, in perhaps DVB-H territory?
