Willcom to use DoCoMo network for data transmission

Willcom, the only PHS operator in Japan, will launch data transmission services using NTT DoCoMo network (country’s largest), as early as this spring. Using this way, Willcom hopes to increase its number of subscribers.

Currently, Willcom already have PHS-based data service for unlimited usage, costing about 4000 Yen (US$ 43), but with maximum speed only 800 Kbps. Using MVNO agreement, Wilcom will be able to transmit 10 times faster using DoCoMo’s third generation network. By the end of October, Willcom has about 4.56 million subscribers, that’s counted as the smallest mobile operator in the country.
