MTNL to become India’s first 3G operator, launch the service tomorrow
Finally a 3G connection for Indian subscribers. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), the state-owned telecom company will become the first Indian service provider to commercially launch 3G services and will unveil it tomorrow in India Telecom 2008 event. The service will be launched by the present of the Prime Minister himself, Dr. Manmohan Sigh.
At first, MTNL will offer free service for the first two months. That condition applies for its premium users, with Delhi coverage area only. But the company says that the whole region will be covered within a month. Mumbai launch will take place in around two months time.
The 3G core network deployment is provided by US’ Motorola. Beside MTNL, BSNL, another state-owned, also has received 3G spectrum.
