K-Tai Watch: Japan’s handset of the year goes to Softbank 931SH and iPhone 3G
Bunch of folks in K-Tai Watch has conducted open poll for the best handset in 2008. Held on Dec 19-25, the poll collected about 3000 votes. For “regular/non smartphone handset”, Softbank 931SH by Sharp spotted the number 1, followed by NTT DoCoMo’s F-01A. 931SH dominates the chart by 12.1%, while the second place only voted by 5.36% respondents.
In smartphone category, the award goes to none other than iPhone 3G. The phenomenal phone grabbed majority with 61.35% votes, while in second place, Willcom 03 is chosen by 15.31%. Quite shocking since iPhone 3G, although very popular worldwide, unlikely to beat Sharp’s or Panasonic’s prominent line ups in term of sales.
Softbank 931SH is a Sharp product features 3.8 inch ASV large screen with 1024 x 800 pixels resolution. The phone has 5.2 megapixels CMOS camera with image stabilizer, 1-seg digital TV tuner, and other standard Japan phones features.

931SH looks like a very solid phone especially for the price however I think there much better phones out there to replace it. Definitely not the handset of the year.
