Breaking news: Clue about Indonesia’s Telkomsel iPhone 3G pricing scheme
Our Managing Editor, Budi Putra, has obtained a reliable clue about Telkomsel’s iPhone 3G pricing scheme. No, we are not going to disclose about the exact price, as we pay respect to our information ninjas who is close to this matter. 3GWeek will only give clue about one scheme that will be announced in near future. Only one scheme? Well, we are open to more possibilities, but for now, there is one scheme that most likely will be deployed. As for the exact date of the launching, it should be the end of February or beginning of March.
So, you can’t wait any longer to hear from us? Here are the pricing scheme clues:
-
The payment will only valid using credit card
-
The Down Payment will be 50% of total price
-
The rest of 50% will be paid monthly for the next 12 months. That’s why they require credit card
-
There will be IDR 100,000 “subsidize” in form of credit (or Indonesian call it “pulsa”)
Again, we should wonder why the scheme only apply for credit card holders. The answer lies in the monthly payment. It will be “too risky” to let people pay it in cash value, since it is considered as debt. For me, there is one alternative solution. For postpaid subscribers, Telkomsel may charge it directly to their bills. Again, this solution will not satisfy prepaid subscribers and we know more than 90% telecom subscribers in Indonesia are prepaid one. This move will indirectly push people for applying credit card, I guess.
So, why there is no full cash scheme? Only Telkomsel an Apple officials (and God, of course) know why.

Hi…I’m from indonesia and would like to ask some question.
1. Is this information valid?
2. in point no. 4, does that mean the Rp.100.000 pulsa can be use for phone calls or sms or is it the abonemen?
3. When Telkomsel will officially launch Iphone?
4. I’d already register for pre-order, but I’m not a Telkomsel product customer (other provider customer), will I be consider eligible for the Iphone?

1. Why would we post it in the first place if not *near* valid?
2. Sort of
3. We *have said* in the post that the phone will be available by the end of Feb or beginning of March
4. No, you should have Telkomsel SIM card first, it will probably being locked

This amounts to a whole lot of nothing…ie omong kosong! With no price mention it is meaningless information. Guard your info ninja? We have heard from Telkomsel via Jakarta post that the price will be around 6 juta. Does that mean total price or just the 50% down payment? There is a big difference.
My guess is that it will be 6 juta down payment and 500,000 a month for a year. That will put it in a comparable range as other countries but will only be a one year contract. That is better since the new model will likely be coming out and people won’t want to be locked into a long contract with a new version coming soon.
re number 4 above…no need to get a telkomsel sim first as it will be included with new activation if you are not already a subscriber.
