HP Provides 3G Cards for W-CDMA and EV-DO

HP seems ready to enter the potencial 3G market by providing two kind of card in notebooks for both 3G W-CDMA and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. Wireless equipment vendor Sierra Wireless today announced that HP has selected its HSDPA PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules to provide 3G connectivity in the firm's forthcoming 6400 notebook PCs. For non-GSM markets such as the US and Asia, the Sierra Wireless MC5720 EV-DO PCI Express Mini Card embedded module will be incorporated in the HP Compaq 6400 notebook. Read more

MTPCS and Nokia Build GSM Network in Montana

MTPCS, LLC, d.b.a. Chinook Wireless, has selected Nokia to build a GSM/GPRS/EDGE network throughout Montana. Nokia is supplying 100 percent of the radio and core network, along with network services. The companies have signed a five-year supply contract covering equipment, network planning services, deployment services and Nokia Care services. Chinook Wireless will be deploying one of North America's first 3GPP Release 4 network architectures, using Nokia's mobile softswitch solution MSC Server System. Additionally, Nokia is providing a portfolio of services, including network planning, installation, integration, and testing. TIPA Chooses Nokia N80 as Best Mobile Imaging

Nokia today revealed that the Nokia N80 multimedia computer has been voted the Best Mobile Imaging Device in Europe 2006 by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), the largest photo and imaging press association in Europe. 3G Phones in Finland Doubled in One Month: Elisa

The number of third generation mobile phones in Finland doubled in the month after new laws took effect on April 1 allowing bundled sales of phones and subscriptions, a senior executive at operator Elisa said on Monday. "The number of 3G handsets has doubled in a month, they are now 2 percent of all phones and the churn has come down," Matti Vikkula, Elisa's executive vice president for private customer business, said at Helsinki's MobileMonday technology fair. Mobile operators in Finland had competed fiercely on price for several years, with call costs dropping at the fastest speed in Europe last year, according to research firm Informa. NTT DoCoMo to Invest 640 Bln Yen for 3G Service

NTT DoCoMo Inc plans to invest about 640 bln yen for its third generation (3G) mobile phone FOMA service by the end of the year to March 2007, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing the company president Masao Nakamura. The move is aimed at helping the firm catch up with KDDI Corp, the current leader of 3G phone services, the business daily said. The investment will enable the firm to boost the number of its cell stations by 50 pct to more than 44,000 and it is eyeing a 150 pct increase in subscribers for its FOMA service to 35 mln, the Nikkei said. 3G Vodafone in HP Notebook

The third generation (3G) will come to many commercial laptops. Over the weekend, HP and Vodafone in Ireland revealed that Vodafone 3G Connect Cards will come bundled with every HP commercial laptop. The offer is subject to the customer signing up for a business plan with Vodafone. The promotion is currently available across the entire range of HP laptops. The news comes within weeks of Dell striking a similar deal with Vodafone to embed 3G connectivity within its laptops, followed by HSDPA (high-speed download packet access) functionality in laptops later this year. Indonesia’s Telkomsel to Launch 3G This Year

PT Telkomsel, Indonesia's leading cellular operator, ready to launch commercial 3G services this year, a Jakarta-based newspaper reported today. During a trial since May last year, Telkomsel performs services such video streaming, video calls and broadband Internet connection.
