Philippines’ Smart Offers New 3G Services

The Philippines's leading wireless services provider Smart Communications Inc. unveiled new 3G service offerings and announced the commercial rates for its 3G cellular service. Fastest Growing 3G in the Philippines

The Philippines would be one of the fastest growing 3G country in Southeast Asia. Smart Communications, a mobile operator in the Philippines which received its 3G operator's licence in December 2005 and became the first 3G operator in the country when it launched W-CDMA services in February 2006, has expanded its 3G network to 60 cities in the country. 3G Access in Thailand Airport

3G Hurts Ericsson Profits

Mobile phone network giant Ericsson reported first-quarter earnings and profitability below expectations on Friday due to costs from its takeover of Marconi and the start up of new contracts. It hinted at further pressure on profitability as it takes on new business in a market for equipment for GSM and high-speed 3G phone networks where it said the long-term growth drivers of new subscriber additions were still in place. Ericsson shares opened down 2.4 percent at 28 crowns. The group reported pretax profit of 6.7 billion crowns ($888 million), below the average of forecasts in a Reuters poll of 7.5 billion crowns and flat on the first quarter of 2005. 3G: India to Outpace Japan Soon

A recent study projects that by 2010, India will have 21.3 million 3G users (11 per cent of the mobile lines).
