3G CDMA in Japan Continues to Grow

The third generation (3G) technology in Japan continues to grow. More than 50 percent of cellular subscirbers in Japan are 3G CDMA now, a senior manager Qualcomm told Asia Tech recently. According to Takayuki (Ted) Nozaki, Senior Manager Business Development Qualcomm Japan, as of end of February, number of 3G CDMA subscribers of each carrier was as follows: NTT DoCoMo WCDMA: 22,015,000, KDDI 1x/1xEV-DO: 21,159,600 and Vodafone WCDMA : 2,736,200. India to have 21.3 m 3G users by 2010: Study

India is expected to have 21.3 million 3G users (11 per cent of the mobile lines) by 2010. Within two years, India is expected to take over Japan to become the third largest mobile market in the world after China and the US. This was the finding of The Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) report titled, "Enabling India's Broadband Economy - The 3G Way", a market study conducted by CII in partnership with the research firm The Yankee Group.
