Apple promises 3G iPhone for 2008

3G iPhone? Really? And I hope it will come along with several improvements on the phone... Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, has confirmed that there is a 3G iPhone in the works, although fell short of saying when we could expect to buy one. Making the comments at the "Mum is no longer the word" press conference at the Regent Street Apple store in London, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple said: "You can expect a 3G iPhone later next year". TEO launches 3G campaign in Buenos Aires

Telecom Argentina plans to launch this week a 3G service offering in capital Buenos Aires. The company also expects changes in local regulations allowing telecoms operators in Argentina to provide triple play services to be introduced by the end of the year. Company chairman Carlos Felices said the company was carrying out internal tests in preparation for when the government gives the go-ahead. Source

HP Provides 3G Cards for W-CDMA and EV-DO

HP seems ready to enter the potencial 3G market by providing two kind of card in notebooks for both 3G W-CDMA and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. Wireless equipment vendor Sierra Wireless today announced that HP has selected its HSDPA PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules to provide 3G connectivity in the firm's forthcoming 6400 notebook PCs. For non-GSM markets such as the US and Asia, the Sierra Wireless MC5720 EV-DO PCI Express Mini Card embedded module will be incorporated in the HP Compaq 6400 notebook. Read more

Canada’s Bell Expands 3G Network

Just like mostly other coutries in the American continent, Canada expanded 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network. The country’s second largest cellco Bell Mobility has expanded the network to cover Ottawa, Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville, alongside a new roaming agreement with Aliant to provide its users with EV-DO services in Halifax. 3G Americas: GSM to Grow 50 Percent This Year

The number of GSM mobile users in Latin America and the Caribbean is expected to grow 50% this year to 180 million compared to 2005, Erasmo Rojas, Latin America and Caribbean director for GSM industry association 3G Americas, told BNamericas. At the end of the first quarter, Latin America recorded nearly 260 million mobile users up from 188 million in 1Q05. Comparing last quarter with the same period a year ago, GSM was the fastest growing technology, increasing its client base by 93%, while CDMA technology grew 37% and TDMA continues to lose subscribers.
