Cellular Reaches 2,5 Billion Lines

Geekzone reported a very interesting statictic on cellular industry milestones. Mobile phone industry has become a spectacular industry: it took 20 years to reach 1 billion connections, three years to reach 2 billion connections and is on target to reach its third billion in a period of just over two years. BlackBerry goes 3G

This is another new handset challenger in 3G market... Research In Motion (RIM) recently announced its first UMTS-capable handhelds, the BlackBerry 8707g and 8707v, in Singapore. Both models, which essentially offer the same features but with slight differentiation in exterior casing, will be carried by all three local mobile operators. The 8707g will be available from SingTel and StarHub, while the 8707v will be offered by M1. One of the key features of the new BlackBerry handhelds is their ability to multitask. Smackall Releases MMOG by SMNA

Smackall, a leading mobile entertainment solution provider announces the release of massively multi-player online game (MMOG) available on selected Java-enabled mobile phones through the SMNA Technology. The game is played on a board with 7 columns and 6 rows, which is placed in a vertical position. The players have 21 discs each, distinguished by color. No Content, No 3G

Indonesia, which has five 3G operators already, will be the third ASEAN country after Singapore and Malaysia to have WCDMA-based 3G services. We will be joining around fifty million people who already have access to this service around the world. But it's not clear what services the operators will offer. Nokia Mobile TV Using DVB-H

Nokia recently announced a new commercial DVB-H pilot in Stockholm with Teracom in Sweden. Nokia is supplying the Nokia Mobile Broadcast System 3.0 and Nokia N92 mobile TV devices to the pilot which will last from October to December 2006 and includes 400 consumers. The project is a co-operation between ATG, Boxer, Nokia, Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television/UR, Telenor and Teracom. The pilot participants will be able to watch fourteen TV channels and listen to four radio channels in the Stockholm city region, where a network has been built for high quality indoor and outdoor coverage. Indonesia’s BTEL to Expand Coverage

Publicly listed cellular phone provider PT Bakrie Telecom, which operates the CDMA-based esia mobile phone service, plans to expand its coverage to 15 cities in Banten and West Java next month in a bid to carve itself out a bigger share of the mobile phone market.
