Huawei completes WiMAX trials in Japan

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has successfully completed two trials of its end-to-end Mobile WiMAX solution for Reinan Cable Network Co., Ltd and Beam Planning Corporation in Japan . The trials were carried out in cooperation with Fujikura, a manufacturer of power and communication cables. The trials are regarded as an important step in the u-JAPAN Plan, which is a Japanese government initiative to realize seamless broadband coverage throughout Japan by 2010. Japanese cable operators, such as RCN, selected WiMAX technology for its large coverage footprint and high capacity, which also will help solve the broadband access problem in the regions with low broadband coverage. The Huawei WiMAX solution uses leading technologies, such as MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) and OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), to ensure higher flux and comprehensive coverage in those regions.

3G for Education in Indonesia

DoCoMo 3G Phones Get Windows Media

The third generation (3G) providers in Japan have came to "open war" now. In facing the fast growing of the rival KDDI with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and BREW platform, NTT DoCoMo chooses Windows Media to support their W-CDMA handset. HP Provides 3G Cards for W-CDMA and EV-DO

HP seems ready to enter the potencial 3G market by providing two kind of card in notebooks for both 3G W-CDMA and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. Wireless equipment vendor Sierra Wireless today announced that HP has selected its HSDPA PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules to provide 3G connectivity in the firm's forthcoming 6400 notebook PCs. For non-GSM markets such as the US and Asia, the Sierra Wireless MC5720 EV-DO PCI Express Mini Card embedded module will be incorporated in the HP Compaq 6400 notebook. Read more

Finally, a Use for 3G

Bad weather sometimes plays havoc with cellular phone service, but Israeli engineers have found that these same wireless communication networks can be used to efficiently and accurately monitor the amount of rainfall around the country in real time. The data, published today in the journal Science, was collected by an Israeli team headed by University of Tel-Aviv professor Hagit Messer-Yaron. Rain, snow, humidity, and other atmospheric conditions affect the strength of electromagnetic signals. Mobile phone operators already collect such data and use the knowledge to boost the network when things turn nasty. The team collated mast strength numbers with recorded precipitation levels. 3G Vodafone in HP Notebook

The third generation (3G) will come to many commercial laptops. Over the weekend, HP and Vodafone in Ireland revealed that Vodafone 3G Connect Cards will come bundled with every HP commercial laptop. The offer is subject to the customer signing up for a business plan with Vodafone. The promotion is currently available across the entire range of HP laptops. The news comes within weeks of Dell striking a similar deal with Vodafone to embed 3G connectivity within its laptops, followed by HSDPA (high-speed download packet access) functionality in laptops later this year. 3G Access in Thailand Airport

Alcatel Hurts on 3G ‘Pricing War’

Alcatel Inc. reported strong growth in its fixed-line business during the first quarter, but intense competition in mobile network equipment sales hurt the company’s operating margin, which rose to 6.5 percent from 4.1 percent a year ago, but fell below analyst expectations of 8 percent. The French equipment vendor posted first-quarter net profits of $129.1 million from sales of $3.8 billion.
