Globe Telecom in Philippines deploys Nokia MSC Server

Mobile softswitch ideal to combine 2G and 3G services. Nokia has signed a nationwide supply contract with the Philippine telecommunications company Globe Telecom Inc. This network modernization deal includes an upgrade of the Globe Telecom circuit switched core network, also enabling fixed mobile convergence. Under the agreement Nokia will renew the core network of Globe Telecom including the upgrade of Nokia mobile switching centre into Nokia MSC Server mobile softswitch. Included are also the unique, multitechnology Nokia NetAct(TM) network and service management solution, Nokia Voice over IP Server, and Nokia IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Nokia has proved that its Communicator brand has successfully shaped a significant milestone in the contemporary marketing history of Indonesia as well as the world. Nokia Indonesia conducted the Communicator Community Gathering today to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Nokia Communicator’s presence in Indonesia. BlackBerry goes 3G

This is another new handset challenger in 3G market... Research In Motion (RIM) recently announced its first UMTS-capable handhelds, the BlackBerry 8707g and 8707v, in Singapore. Both models, which essentially offer the same features but with slight differentiation in exterior casing, will be carried by all three local mobile operators. The 8707g will be available from SingTel and StarHub, while the 8707v will be offered by M1. One of the key features of the new BlackBerry handhelds is their ability to multitask. According to RIM, the 8707g and 8707v allow simultaneous voice and data usage while being used as a modem for a PC. GSM Royalty?

We know that GSM technology is a sort of open standard technology -- just like Linux in computer world. And we consider its competitor, CDMA, as a propietry technology, which always deal with royalty, patent rights or something like that . That is why, so far, Qualcomm -- the owner of CDMA technology -- has been portrayed as the bad guy, as it has come under fire for its royalty charges and licensing policies from Nokia, Broadcom and others in anti-trust complaints and patent suits. Nokia Mobile TV Using DVB-H

Nokia recently announced a new commercial DVB-H pilot in Stockholm with Teracom in Sweden. Nokia is supplying the Nokia Mobile Broadcast System 3.0 and Nokia N92 mobile TV devices to the pilot which will last from October to December 2006 and includes 400 consumers. The project is a co-operation between ATG, Boxer, Nokia, Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television/UR, Telenor and Teracom. The pilot participants will be able to watch fourteen TV channels and listen to four radio channels in the Stockholm city region, where a network has been built for high quality indoor and outdoor coverage.
