Announced, Top Executives for Nokia Siemens Networks

Nokia and Siemens today announced the future top executive team for Nokia Siemens Networks, the recently announced 50-50 joint venture that combines the Networks Business Group of Nokia and the carrier-related operations of Siemens. The new company is expected to start operations by January 1, 2007, subject to customary regulatory approvals, the completion of standard closing conditions, and the agreement of a number of detailed implementation steps. The team consists of: Mika Vehviläinen, who will serve as Chief Operating Officer. Vehviläinen is currently Senior Vice President & General Manager, Core Networks, Nokia. HP Provides 3G Cards for W-CDMA and EV-DO

HP seems ready to enter the potencial 3G market by providing two kind of card in notebooks for both 3G W-CDMA and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. Wireless equipment vendor Sierra Wireless today announced that HP has selected its HSDPA PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules to provide 3G connectivity in the firm's forthcoming 6400 notebook PCs. For non-GSM markets such as the US and Asia, the Sierra Wireless MC5720 EV-DO PCI Express Mini Card embedded module will be incorporated in the HP Compaq 6400 notebook. Read more

3G Access in Thailand Airport

If you arrive at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport or just killing time in transit process, you can enjoy the advanced multi-telecommunications network there. The airport will incorporate six different network technologies, including WCDMA and GSM, to allow for third-generation connectivity across the facility. 3G Videophone Will Run Windows Mobile

Taiwanese ODM Compal Communications Inc. (CCI) is developing a 3G cellular videophone/PDA running Windows Mobile 5.0, according to Radvision, the supplier of a 3G-324M protocol toolkit to CCI. The new 3G handheld will include an "advanced" video application that lets users subscribe to video conferences and participate in video communities, Radvision says. CCI's new 3G PDA/videophone will be based on an Intel PXA270 XScale processor, according to Radvision. The company says it developed the CCI videophone application using its 3G-324M Toolkit, in collaboration with both Microsoft and Intel. RIM to Launch Blackberry in China by Late May

Research In Motion (RIM) reportedly expects to launch its Blackberry wireless e-mail deivce with Hong Kong-based China Mobile by the end of 2006. The number of Chinese mobile subscriptions reached 404 million at the end of February, according to Chinese government statisticians. Over half of Chinese users rely on China Mobile for their wireless service, a total of 254.9 million as of the end of February, according to the company. China Mobile alone has more mobile phone subscribers than the entire U.S RIM has also announced plans of launching a Blackberry device that uses 3G mobile technology in the second half of 2006. Samsung Hit by Sliding Mobile Phone Margins

Samsung Electronics posted an increase in its year-over-year net income during the first quarter, although, despite record shipments during the quarter, the company's results were hit by declining margins in its cell phone business. The company reported net income of $1.96 billion, up from $1.56 billion a year ago. Revenue was up slightly, too, but operating profit was down 25 percent year-over-year. Samsung shipped 29 million handsets in the first quarter, setting a record and coming close to its forecast of 29.5 million. The company shipped 27.2 million units in the fourth quarter and 24.5 million in the comparable period a year ago.
