Posted in: Vendor, Asia Pacific, Network Operator, 3G

Japanese telecom equipment maker NEC is willing to participate in rolling out a third generation (3G) mobile network in Russia. Russian operators are reportedly enthusiastic about the offer. According yo Russian IT and Telecommunications Minister Leonid Reiman, NEC had offered an advanced solution dubbed “3.5G”.

Third generation (3G) is a set of wireless technologies that offer expanded opportunities for high-speed data transfer, including video broadcasting and video calls.

Results of a tender for 3G licenses in Russia are to be announced on April 20. The telecoms regulator received applications from 11 operators as of Monday, including bids from Russia’s three largest mobile operators - MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon.
