The number of third generation mobile phones in Finland doubled in the month after new laws took effect on April 1 allowing bundled sales of phones and subscriptions, a senior executive at operator Elisa said on Monday.
“The number of 3G handsets has doubled in a month, they are now 2 percent of all phones and the churn has come down,” Matti Vikkula, Elisa’s executive vice president for private customer business, said at Helsinki’s MobileMonday technology fair.
Mobile operators in Finland had competed fiercely on price for several years, with call costs dropping at the fastest speed in Europe last year, according to research firm Informa. But competition has calmed in recent months, with operators like TeliaSonera announcing their first price hikes. [3G!]
