AT&T on talk to buy Malaysia’s TM International stake

A local newspaper reported that US telecom giant, AT&T, is interested in acquiring a stake in Telekom Malaysia unit, TM International. Late last year, Malaysia’s largest telecommunications group said it may bring in a foreign strategic partner for TM International.

NSN got IVR deal with India’s Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel, Indian telecom company, asked Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) to deploy single Interactive Voice Response (IVR) platform across all 23 circles. The multimillion euro deal covers designing, planning, system integration, and optimization services to enhance overall customer experience.

Nokia N82 8GB to be announced

Revealed in Nokia Nseries US portal, Nokia is going to launch 8 GB version of N82. The steps is quite similar to N95, refreshing the line up with upgraded memory variant. Besides memory, N95 8GB also results larger screen and more durable battery. Will the same thing applies to N82?

NSN to acquire Apertio

Nokia Siemens Network, agreed to acquire Apertio, a British company. Specialized in database, Apertio consolidates mobile and wireline subscriber data on common servers. The price tag is US$ 205 million for five years old company. The transaction demonstrates the growing demand for flexible subscriber databases.

Sprint Nextel new CEO steps down from Nokia board

Sprint Nextel new CEO, Dan Hesse, steps down from his position in Nokia’s board of directors. As there is no mutual cooperation between the CDMA operator and largest GSM phonemaker, this announcement brings no surprise. Hesse’s challenge will be managing Sprint Nextel after merger and gaining the customer back in recent tough competition against other operators, both CDMA and GSM network.

Fishermen’s info update via mobile phone in India

Leading network manufacturer, ADC Krone, will team up with India operator Tata Indicom to provide update regarding weather and other information directly to mobile phone. Krone said the initiative has been taken up as a pilot project under the aegis of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation at Veerampattinam in Tamil Nadu and would be followed soon as a commercial service.

Faizabad’s E-gov to go mobile

One area in India, Faizabad, has announced to create e-governance service on mobile phone. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) Gaurav Dayal has launched an initiative, called “Real e-Governance”. Recently Dayal has started trials for a project called Anant Sampark by Harnessing Wireless Access (ASHWA), with an aim to establish a practicable e-Governance infrastructure which will connect rural areas with the district headquarter.
