Japan-Swedish manufacturer, Sony Ericsson, which is now rank in number 4 of mobile producer, reported to sell 100 million handsets in 2007. Translated into percentage, now Sony Ericsson holds 9% of market share and plan to take the US market from Motorola. One big contribution made by its Walkman series. Among 145 million music phone sold last year, 57 million were Walkman phones.

Apple is dying to enter Japan market. As their desktop (and laptop) dominate the computer market (and vanish Windows into second place), they want iPhone to have same history. Even if they have already made conversation with DoCoMo and Softbank, iPhone is hardly to enter Japan’s market.

US phone manufacturer, Motorola, introduced something we have been waiting for so long. Their SLVR L7 is powered with hydrogen! In creating the technology, Motorola are in cooperation with Canadian company, Angstrom Power. Angstrom claimed that the fuel cell lasts twice as long as an equivalent sized lithium battery, and recharges in just 10 minutes. Definitely something we need since we are tired charging 3-4 hours for only 2-3 days last.

China Telecom, the leading wireline provider of telecommunications services in China has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) as the primary solutions provider for its video monitoring service, MegaEye. This video monitoring solution is an operator host IP based offering capable of providing high end images for remote monitoring.

Due to lack of location competitiveness, Nokia plans to close its German manufacturing and automotive supply unit plant in Bochum. The moves would reduce Nokia’s work force by 2,300 positions, or about 2 percent. Currently they are in talk to sell the plant to India’s Sasken Technologies.

The Singapore’s largest operator, Singtel, unveiled the plan on entering mobile and internet advertising business and to lead it within next 5 years. The new strategy will involve delivering an end-to-end advertising solution across four key areas – inventory creation and control of customer information, media planning, advertisement delivery and advertising campaign performance tracking. The mobile and Internet advertising industry in Singapore is estimated to be worth more than $200 million by 2012.

Sony Ericsson and UK’s film magazine, Empire, calls all video maker to submit their creation for winning Empire Awards. All they have to do is remaking their favorite movie in 60 seconds using DV camera or mobile phone. The winner will hold trophy and £250, which will be crowned on March. Entries for the competition to be received no later than 11 February.

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is giving high priority to North America, one of its global weak spots, in 2008, the company’s new president Hideki Komiyama said. Komiyama, who took over from Miles Flint in November, said the Japanese-Swedish joint venture was still interested in emerging markets but would target higher income consumers there, not the very low end of the market.

After the patent battle last November, Qualcomm and Nokia, the world’s largest cell phone maker, have agreed to a cease-fire in their sprawling patent dispute until they decide if a Delaware court is the best place to settle their differences.
