Motorola to create 20-30 handsets in 2008

Motorola, who the sales is decreasing everyday, is trying to regain its position back. They plan to launch 20-30 handsets in 2008. Stated by Bill Chen, newly appointed Motorola Taiwan General Manager of mobile device business, Motorola aimed to re-capture the lead position in the Taiwan handset market.

Sony Ericsson and RIM launched Blackberry Connect in Asia Pacific

Sony Ericsson and RIM, yesterday announced its new agreement. They agree to bundle Blackberry Connect software 4.0 into Sony Ericsson P1i in Asia Pacific. The tools will be preloaded in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

HTC is going to create phone for Google’s Android

Taiwan's phone manufacturer, HTC, has announced to make phone for Google's Android platform. It is expected to be launched in Europe by second half of 2008. The focus of this Android is more to Internet experience than just make a call.

Taiwan to spend $664 mln on WiMax

Taiwan is one of a few countries in the world which was ready to develop WiMAX. Reuters wrote that Taiwan decided to invest US$664 million over the next few years, as it agreed to work with five major manufacturers to develop that technology.

Taiwan producers to start shipping 3G PDA phones

3G handsets have potential market in the region. Asustek Computer will begin to ship two 3G handsets to O2 Asia Pacific this month, followed by Quanta Computer and Arima Communications, which will each ship a 3G device to the company, according to market sources. The two models from Asustek are the O2 Xda Zinc PDA phone and the O2 Graphite smartphone, with both models featuring Xscale processors from Marvell and a 2-megapixel built-in camera, said the sources. Quanta will deliver the Atom Life PDA phone to O2 Asia. 3G Videophone Will Run Windows Mobile

Taiwanese ODM Compal Communications Inc. (CCI) is developing a 3G cellular videophone/PDA running Windows Mobile 5.0, according to Radvision, the supplier of a 3G-324M protocol toolkit to CCI. The new 3G handheld will include an "advanced" video application that lets users subscribe to video conferences and participate in video communities, Radvision says. CCI's new 3G PDA/videophone will be based on an Intel PXA270 XScale processor, according to Radvision. The company says it developed the CCI videophone application using its 3G-324M Toolkit, in collaboration with both Microsoft and Intel. Taiwan Market: CHT Begins to Market Co-Branded 3G

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), the largest telecom operator in Taiwan, yesterday started marketing in Taiwan a co-branded version of the Nokia 6280 3G handset manufactured to its specifications, according to CHT sources. To boost its penetration in the 3G segment, CHT will launch more co-branded 3G handsets, with a model to come from Asustek Computer in May, and a PDA phone and a smartphone from High Tech Computer (HTC) in June, the sources said.
