NTT DoCoMo profit drops 20%

The press conference held by NTT DoCoMo revealed the drop in net profit compared to last year result. Due to the price war with its competitor, KDDI and SoftBank, the company revised its sales forecast for the full year.

Opera Widget for KDDI new handsets

Opera announced that KDDI, one of Japan's mobile operators, will equipped Opera Widget into its new "au" handsets, Toshiba W56T, Sony Ericsson W54S, and Sanyo W54SA. It is the first widget implementation for mobile technology. The widget is branded "au one Gadget".

DoCoMo 3G Phones Get Windows Media

The third generation (3G) providers in Japan have came to "open war" now. NTT DoCoMo to Invest 640 Bln Yen for 3G Service

NTT DoCoMo Inc plans to invest about 640 bln yen for its third generation (3G) mobile phone FOMA service by the end of the year to March 2007, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing the company president Masao Nakamura. The move is aimed at helping the firm catch up with KDDI Corp, the current leader of 3G phone services, the business daily said. The investment will enable the firm to boost the number of its cell stations by 50 pct to more than 44,000 and it is eyeing a 150 pct increase in subscribers for its FOMA service to 35 mln, the Nikkei said. KDDI Selects Axalto for 3G CDMA Card Launch

Axalto announced that it has launched the first third generation CDMA User Identification Module (UIM) commercial card in Japan with KDDI. The Axalto cards are designed to work together with KDDI’s CDMA 2000 EV-DO third generation mobile handsets. With the Axalto UIM card, KDDI offers increased transaction security, and delivers portability ease for Japanese mobile users. KDDI subscribers can now access both GSM and CDMA networks with just one card, and users will be able to use the same telephone number both domestically and internationally. 3G CDMA in Japan Continues to Grow

The third generation (3G) technology in Japan continues to grow. More than 50 percent of cellular subscirbers in Japan are 3G CDMA now, a senior manager Qualcomm told Asia Tech recently. According to Takayuki (Ted) Nozaki, Senior Manager Business Development Qualcomm Japan, as of end of February, number of 3G CDMA subscribers of each carrier was as follows: NTT DoCoMo WCDMA: 22,015,000, KDDI 1x/1xEV-DO: 21,159,600 and Vodafone WCDMA : 2,736,200.
