Infineon Technologies AG announced that its GPRS/UMTS multimedia platform will power Panasonic Mobile Communications Co. Ltd’s newest Softbank 705P mobile handset. The Softbank Mobile Corp. handset will be for the Japan market.

Infineon’s scalable Multimedia Platform EDGE/UMTS (MP-EU) allows mobile phone manufacturers to introduce various UMTS models based on the same core architecture, reducing design cycles and cutting time-to-market. It has all necessary hardware and software components of a mobile handset.

“Infineon and Panasonic have a long track-record of successful cooperation and we are happy to expand our activities by bringing a common dual-mode 3G solution in the market,” said Dr. Hermann Eul, management board member and president of communication solutions business group at Infineon.
