India to implement 3G in mid 2008
Unlike other countries in Asia Pacific which already implemented 3G before 2007, India just begun to implement the 3G network by mid 2008. A. Raja, Federal Communication and Information Minister, said that some spectrum for both 2G and 3G services will be vacated by the end of this year.
The defense ministry controls most of the bandwidth in India and is expected to free some radio bandwidth that can be deployed for commercial use by mobile phone operators.
Most Internet-savvy countries in Asia Pacific have already implemented 3G for about 2 or 3 years. Indonesia has launched the technology last year, while Japan has launched it in 2003.
