Sony Ericsson still number four
Gartner reported that during the third quarter 2007, Sweden-Japan manufacturer, Sony Ericsson still maintain its position in fourth place of global handset market share. The number is shortly increasing to 8.8%. Nokia still holds the first position, followed by Samsung, and Motorola.
Sony Ericsson has been criticized by the organization Swedwatch for doing too little to reduce its reliance on child labor. According to Swedish Television News, cobalt for cellphone batteries is mined in the Congo and Zambia, where tens of thousands of children work under dangerous conditions.
Sony Ericsson refused by saying it has placed conditions on its suppliers and regularly checks to make sure they are being followed.
