Samsung to launch cheap phone
Korean largest mobile manufacturer, Samsung, plans to launch the line up of cheap phone. It will be sold in emerging countries to take the share of mobile industry. One more strategy to beat Nokia. The phones is planned to be offered in India, Southeast Asia, and South America.
Company spokesperson, Kim Tae-hoon, said, “We want to become an all-around player in the handset market. Samsung hopes to move away from its focus on premium products to accelerate its penetration into emerging markets.”
“The company is targeting global sales of 200 million handsets this year and aims to raise its global market share to 25 percent by 2010,” said Kim. Samsung’s global market share in 2007 is estimated at 14.4 percent with a global shipment of 161.5 million units, cited from report by research firm Strategy Analytics.
