China’s Huawei to join Open Handset Alliance

Now it is really a battle between China and Taiwan. Not only in politics, there will be another China vs Taiwan match up in Android handsets. China’s Huawei is about to follow Taiwan’s HTC step on joining Open Handset Alliance (OHA), the consortium of Google-pioneered-Android maker. Huawei is well known as the country’s largest handset and network infrastructure provider.
Huawei will be the second China company to join OHA after country’s largest operator, China Mobile. At least I think Huawei will be the maker of the phone launched for China market (by China Mobile), since China has specific 3G requirement which is different to the rest of the world. Beside Android, Huawei is also going to release Symbian-based smartphone. Both phones will be released on first half of 2009.
