Friendster finally goes mobile
Smiling Friendster goes mobile. Too late?
The Asia’s number one social networking site (sorry for MySpace and Facebook), Friendster finally launch its mobile version in m.friendster.com. With over 50 million registered Asian-users and 34 million monthly unique visitors it has, compared to 1.2 billion mobile phone users and over 315 million PC-based Internet users in Asia, I’m just hoping that Friendster is not too late for this.
In Friendster Mobile version, users can retrieve updates on their friends’ activities, check messages, review friend requests, post shoutouts, browse photos, browse user profiles and Fan Profiles, search for users by name or email, view birthdays, read horoscopes, post bulletins and much more. This enables more effective communications with friends while away from a computer. The different aspect with the desktop version is that users may not see AdSense or Google-based ad campaign. Great!
Would you prefer to Friendster or Facebook?
In the coming weeks, the site will be available in multiple languages. My native language, Bahasa Indonesia will be the first additional language, since it given Friendster’s large and highly mobile user base. Indonesia gives Friendster with 8 million registered users and 4 million monthly unique visitors to Friendster.com, as of March 2008. Shortly, users will be able to also register directly on m.friendster.com, create an account and instantly begin participating in the Friendster global community.

I’m the FS (short for Friendster like most Indonesian used to say) user. I’m using Friendster frequently since most of my friends and family are using it too. Can’t imagine if a well-design with a great user interface social network like Facebook comes earlier here. Well, just to remind Friendster’s #1 unsolved problem: design !

Please remove the mobile version.. I’d rather choose desktop version on my mobile phone,because the mobile ver is too simple.. I can’t see comments and testimonial,, can’t update with enjoyable,, and the most important i can not go back to desktop version.. I dissapointeeD.. What’s wrong with frndstr?? I can not find the link to switch back to desktop ver..

Dear Itha, you can’t blame Friendster alone though. Problem in mobile version is actually not just because of the app itself. Indeed sometimes our mobile phone itself which do not support the friendster (or another website) mobile version.
And if you don’t mine, I just want to tell you that Apple brought iPhone to us for the good of browsing experience. Therefore, when you want a good experience in surfing online via mobile, you should also considered to buy iPhone or stuff a-like.

same with me… IMO the mobile design on friendster mobile is totally SUCKS !!!….
even when I’m viewing it with my PDA….
It seem the friendster dude had a lot of homework to do if they still want to hold the title of number 1 social network in Asia.

Please put back the desktop version cause the mobile’s version sucks~ . . . It doesn’t improve anything, instead it’s more complicated . . . Please response cause i’m not the only one whose complaining . . . Billions would complain . . . Before it’s too late please return the desktop version . . . This is a very good help for you guys who are indeed very desperate for the desktop version. I’ve just known about this and want to share with you guys too!
Please follow the direction below:
1.go to http://www.quickbrowsing.com
2.unmark the option ‘include mini url’ and ‘remove client scripts…IF wanna show the site title unmark it as well.
3.then,in the enter url,type it http://www.friendster.com
4.save page in the bookmark.
5.enjoy the fs desktop version again..ok-

just log in , then you can view ‘network activity’ in your home . Click ‘view more’ , after that you search VIEW DESKTOP VERSION link !
it’s totally works !

Hoho seems that i have a lot of friends down here!
Ì’ve send an complaining email to fs team,they said that there would be improvment there,but i think we doesn’t need that,we just need the classic fs page,some things still look better in classic,that is how we enjoy our fs page!
So just put the fs on how it used to be! I think all of fs fan doesn’t mind to loose some much money for data transfer than view the mobile version.

in that setting option, MARK ALL the option except that 2 options.

I’ve found the desktop version normally since two days ago..
I’m so happy..
Last night i still view my friendster in desktop version..
But i found the mobile version again now..
But This is different..i’m happy when i can view comments in my friendster..
But i can leave a comment to my friends..and i also can’t found groups that i have..
Whats wrong with friendster..??

i agree with you all, i have been sent a feedback to friendster about this mobile version, i think this mobile version on maintenance not all feature was finished, and a few days ago friendster back to desktop version but today (07-06-08) mobile version was used again by the server and we can’t switch to desktop version even we type again the url, so finally i want desktop version forever and sorry for the worse english, hehe..

I totally agree with you all that friendster mobile should be taken out..this is one of the poorest design in functionality that I have ever encountered. It is really depressing that this introduction of friendster mobile not only fail to bring userfriendliness to you but causing great level of limitation to user. My advice is, please not launch anything if it was not well designed..this will only result in pissing user off and stop using friendster. PLEASE REMOVE FRIENDSTER MOBILE RIGHT AWAY.
