Fake Nokia from Chinese manufacturer

See the picture above? The logo emblazons Nokia name. The upper text says “N95 8GB”. But if we take a look even closer, the form factor looks so plasticy and even worse, it does not powered by Symbian S60! The OS, if we can say it an OS, is so lame with ugly font!

Yes, that product is a fake Nokia, marketed worldwide from China Mainland. It is advertised as Single SIM GSM Phone with 2.6-inch TFT Screen, Supports Bluetooth Function. At first, the specification quite resembles the original one, until we find out that the phone does not support HSDPA frequency (only for 900/1800 MHz GSM frequency), only has 2 megapixels camera (instead of 5 megapixels camera with autofocus), and has no radio supported.

Of course with that kind of specs (no 850/1900 MHz frequency nor 3G), the phone can not be used in the USA. Yet, they claim able to deliver the phone, with 400-499 units of minimum order, to all continents. I think Nokia must have known about this, but Nokia consider a lot of energy will be wasted (for only low compensation), if brings it to the court. Most of this manufacturers are home-made industry, that of course have not much money in their savings.

All we can say is “beware, the fake product are everywhere. Please pay attention of what you are going to buy, before regret comes too late.”

good warning tip but i sensed offensive to my country!

and you didn’t mention the price, it only cost 100$usd sth., no one will gonna treat this as original one!

it’s obviously not symbian os but mtk, which also called 山寨机 (shan-zhai-ji), well entertaining^^

Hi there, sorry if it is sensitive topic, but I think it shouldn’t have Nokia label as it breaks intellectual property. If importers are repackaging it into “real N95″ and sold it at N95’s price and found it to be faked, what should we do?

Just a warning that there is “fake” Nokia out there. Just check and re-check, and make sure you buy it from reputable local stores ;)

Anyway, thx for the information about mtk… Can you give me more information regarding this “mtk”? thx ;)

the MTK mobile platform/solution often refers to cheap chip but combines a lot of features invented by MediaTek Inc. http://www.mediatek.com/index.html

personally, i think the shan-zhai-ji (or fake stuff) has different marketing targets with original one. (there are lot of people who are not rich enough to afford the original one… but they want some fashionable brands as well… then fake stuff exist@@ no offense and this makes world peace:)

anyway, intellectual property issue is those manufacturers’ matter, ignore about it and you will be happy and smile to the fake stuff like me, among the shan-zhai-ji there still have some interesting ideas/designs, maybe one day i’m gonna buy one…lol http://www.shanzhaiji.cn

Hi Gene.. I think the important thing is that people should know this. The Chinese may know the difference, but a lot of people take advantage of the similarities of the design to cheat other people.
The main problem lies in the Nokia logo, which is very much alike to the original.

And yes, I agree that we should make the world a peaceful place.. :)
